Olive Harvest Under the Palms

 

 Among olive trees and date palms, the harvest season is underway in Egypt’s Siwa Oasis. Workers handpick the olives and carry the freshly harvested fruit to be transported for processing — a centuries-old agricultural tradition that remains an important part of life in the oasis.

Egypt Opens 7th International Date Palm Festival In Siwa Oasis

The 7th International Date Palm Festival opened in Siwa, enriched with the local color of the oasis. Egypt ranks first in the world in date production. 20 October 2023.

Date palm harvesting is aproaching in Siwa

For the next three months most of the people in Siwa will be harvesting the dates. The people of Siwa Oasis have been growing dates for 3,000 years. There are many varieties of Siwa dates. Three of the most important varieties are Siwi, Azzawi, and Frehi. But there are three more varieties which are produced in small quantities and are at risk of extinction: Ghazaal, Takdat, and Amnzou.
